MLM’s started back in the 30′s and took the premise of Network Marketing to another level.  With MLM you purposefully and strategically use word of mouth advertising to make it beneficial to the company and sales of the product within it.  Genius!

Over 70 years later, MLM’s are still a prevalent way to start and grow a business venture.  Even though there are many failed start up companies that have come and gone, MLM’s are still at the top of the Network Marketing food chain.

The New Network Marketer

MLM representatives are often called Network Marketers.  Why?  Because that is who they are and that is what they do.  Any new MLM representative should understand this premise before getting started.  This is why, if you don’t use a product that you sell, then it his hard to sell it.  How do you get someone excited about a product that you have never used?  That is another article within itself.

Becoming an MLM Network Marketer

The statement above is something like saying: becoming an entrepreneur.  To be a good entrepreneur, you need to make connections with other people, who can connect you with other people, who can connect you with other people.  Traditionally, you must be a people person to handle this concept, but with the rise of Internet and Social Media, you can accomplish this without so much human interaction.

I twitter.  I facebook.  I youtube.  I am into social media.  You do have to have a personality, so to speak, to use social media to your advantage.  But with these social mediums, you have the time to get it right–before you post.  If you don’t know what that means for you, then you are not ready.  Let me say it again.

Through social media, people learn to know and trust you.  Even though, they have never met you face to face, you are familiar to them.  I know this to be true, because I have my favorite people that I trusted through social media (ie. my upline in my mlm business opportunity).

Running an online business is more than a notion.  It requires time commitment, monetary commitment and a bit of business savvy.  Using software for lead generation is an ideal way to profit quickly from your online venture.

Software for lead generation is used because it makes online business easier.  Reinventing the wheel is not a good way to go about making money online.  It can be done, but it is a slow and grueling process in our fast paced society.   You will need an autoresponder, websites, servers for hosting.  You will need software to run the server and the sites and the autoresponder.  There are also other skills you will need to make the software work properly.

Open a new Twitter Account

Twitter is the hottest social media platform on the Internet right now.  Get this account and make this account personal.  Use your name or nickname in the user-name, not the name of your MLM business opportunity.  Put a great picture on it and don’t start tweeting or saving friends just yet.  You have some more accounts to set up.  When you get back, you will have some followers for absolutely nothing.  It is the way of twitter.

Add a Fan Page to Your Facebook Account

Open a New Youtube Account

Get on Linked IN

Having a Linked IN account allows your followers and friends to connect with you on a business level and if you have a MLM business opportunity, then you want to connect with people on a business level.

Put It All Together

How do you put all of these steps together?  It will take many, many articles to tell you how to put it all together.  However simple a strategy to grow your MLM business opportunity, you will need to understand why these pieces are fitting together to move forward quickly.

Lead generation is a major topic in the Network Marketing Industry today.  I have a few tips on how you can generate hundreds of leads every month with very low overhead.  This can help you maintain your new recruits, because you can teach them to do the same thing.

Jump Into Social Media

Before you start any marketing campaigns for lead generation; it is important to start making a name for yourself, creating buzz and gaining trust.  You can do all of these things through social media involvement.  The most common mistake that Network Marketers make is targeting random leads.  When using social media you want to:

Talk about things outside your niche. You are a real person.  Are you not?  You have real feelings and you like to do different things.  Do you walk around all day saying, “Hey, look at this store,” and “Hey, check out this newspaper?”  Then why would you want to do that on a social media exchange?  The only type of lead generation you will get from that type of interaction is random lead generation.

Define the personality you want to reach. Is your lead target an extrovert, intuitive, feeling, or perceiving?  You will want to use language that would make the personality type that you are targeting more attracted to you.  Effective lead generation begins with this type of interaction.

Ask a few questions on a daily basis. These questions should be targeted.  You should be asking questions that would lead a person into wondering who you are and why you’re so interesting.  You want to get your leads interacting with you and trusting you.  These questions should relate to what you have to offer.

Send out about 10 useful or entertaining links daily. It is good to track these links.  Use a sight like Bit.ly to track which of the links that you send out that are clicked on the most.  This will help you figure out what your leads are more akin to.  You will begin to create a targeted lead generation strategy at this point.  (Remember to stay within the realm of what you have to offer, unless its one or two links of something fun, interesting or inspiring to you.)

Share at least one blog post, article or video every week. Your targeted questions, link tracking and defined target can help with the selection of the media that you want to express to your social gathering.  This media should not be random.  This media should bring your prospect to the point of taking action.  Their first action should be to give name and email, then confirm.  Never leave this lead generation up to chance.

Test a different landing page every week. Like I said about the entertaining links, you should use this method to find out what produces the best lead generation for you.  You can test different capture pages that basically lead to the same end: more conversions and targeted lead generation.

Answer a few peoples questions everyday. This helps to create buzz.  You are also interacting with someone elses targeted or even random social interaction.  This process can draw interest into your own social world and create another targeted lead.  Your social media purpose is to:  Help Them Sleep Better at Night.  When you answer their question, you can help do this.  Then they like you and ultimately learn to trust you.

One thing that I always say about MLM’s… “You don’t own that company!”  Someone else owns it.  You are a “glorified sales rep” of any MLM companies that you market for.  By having you market their product independently, they don’t have to pay YOU sick pay or benefits, and they can charge you for their so called “training.”

I don’t believe there is anything wrong with you being a “glorified sales rep.“  Hey, I am right there with you.  What I don’t believe is that you should be filled with hype about how this is your business.  That company is not your business. You are your business! It is about time that you knew that.  That is the only way that you are going to learn to make a substantial income in this type of business.

You Must Brand Yourself…

…not your MLM company!  This is the second thing that you must learn.  First, those MLM companies are not your business, YOU ARE! Second, YOU MUST BRAND YOURSELF AS A LEADER.  You must make yourself the authority and dominate your niche.  This may sound like a tough feat.  I won’t pretend there is no work involved, but it is not as complicated as you might think.

Get Your Own Domain: It is simple enough to pay a few dollars for your own unique domain name that others can remember to type into their address bars.  Even if your domain name is a bit difficult, with today’s technologies and marketing your domain will still be easily found.

Create Unique Web Pages: If I’ve seen one MLM company page, then I’ve seen another.  But if I come to a site that is different and I meet the person, then I am more willing to see what this NEW thing is about.

Add Yourself Into The Mix: Add video, pictures or audio to make your website even more unique.  Make sure that you use media with you in it.  This creates personalization.  When someone is able to to hear or see you, then they feel familiar with you.  This will do a lot for your bottom line.

You Must Automate…

While marketing these MLM companies, you will run yourself into the ground. You must create an automated system to give yourself the true time freedom that you desire to have.  You can automate:

• Lead Capture Pages
• Direct Response
• Direct Sales
• Follow-up Letters
• Recruiting
• and Training of your new recruits.

Having an automated system creates the ease that most MLM companies “hype” is all about.  The problem is that these MLM companies don’t teach you to automate for your own branding.  They automate to brand themselves.  And they have the right to do so.  That company did the work to brand themselves.  They haven’t built their company to brand you.

When many of us first got started in MLM, we were fed with the hype that attracting MLM leads was easy.  Thinking inside of our own “boxes,” we think: “I get it.  I know my family and friends will see the vision, too.”  Then we run to make our list of 100 friends, family, anyone else we contact, and proceed chase them down.  Then we wonder why even the mail man avoids us like the plague.

Above is I speak about the old methods of  attracting MLM leads.  The Internet has changed MLM lead capture from late night hotel meetings to success tele-calls and webinar conferences.  It has changed from the 3-foot-rule to social media.  It has gone from fliers on cars to links on Twitter.

The Old MLM Story

You’ve been in your MLM for a few years now and your life has seemed to go something like this:

• Late Night Hotel Meetings
• Morning Success Calls
• Midday Success Calls
• Evening Success Calls
• Inviting Family and Friends
• Chasing Family and Friends
• The MLM closes its doors or something really bad happens.
• You change companies.
• You start the whole process over.

This is just one of the many stories that I have heard MLM-ers tell.  It is a tragedy to say the least.  Now you’re thinking, “This is not as easy as it was made out to be.”  And most of us get jaded and just quit.  We are not seeing time with our families.  We are not seeing the income that we were “promised.”  It seems to be a bad thing all around.  We end up blaming the company for not attracting any MLM leads, when really we only have ourselves to blame.

Jim Rohn says, “Self-education is the key to becoming rich.”

The point of that lesson is that, you can’t depend on your MLM company to teach you how to attract MLM leads.  It is not their business to teach you to attract MLM leads to yourself.  It is their business to teach you to attract MLM leads to them.  They are branding themselves.  You should take a lesson from your company and brand yourself, too.

You’re finally seeing some success.  You’re paying a few bills and the months ahead are looking pretty promising.  No, you haven’t joined some new faith or found a new guru.  You have advanced with the times and learned how to attract MLM leads easily.

Website: You don’t want to have the same exact website as every other person in your MLM company.  To attract MLM leads, you must brand yourself.  People are attracted to you and not your MLM. Remember that when creating your leadership image.

Lead Capture: You need to have  a way to contact your leads again, once they leave your website.  Before your prospect can peek into your site, they land on a lead capture page designed to do one thing: capture their name, email and possibly telephone number.  Building a list has proved to be the most profitable way to create a substantial income in our industry.  It is a MUST to have lead capture pages on your sites.

Automated Response: Now, you have the unique domain, a website, and you have captured their email address.  Now what? You have to build a relationship with them.  It is not ideal to write personal letters to each person on your list.  It is not even ideal to write the same mass email letters everyday or even save them as drafts and send them daily.  It is better to write a letter once and let an automated system send it out for you.  This one step will create time freedom for you, like you have never imagined!
