Is MLM Marketing An Old Fad?
MLM companies date back as far as 1934. There may have been some older than that, but my research led me back to 1934. That was 75 years ago that the first MLM company opened its doors. Today, MLM’s are still prevalent in the marketing industry. So, is MLM marketing and old fad? I don’t think so.
Old Methods of Marketing

I don’t know how it was in the early MLM days. What I do know is that the old ways of MLM marketing are definitely gone away. It was necessary to use the traditional methods about 20 years ago. Over the past decade, new methods of MLM marketing strategy have been created and successfully used.
Hotel Meetings
This number one method for MLM marketing is still being used today, because it plain works. It is like inviting a friend to church. You get them in an atmosphere where everyone’s mind is concentrating on one thing. There is a spirit in the group of people. It’s exciting! They feel good. They join your business!
This method works. The problem is the road to getting someone there. Its usually full of road blocks. People are generally afraid of the unknown. But most people actually either know what to expect from a hotel meeting or they have heard. MLM hotel meetings have a bad astigmatism.
At Home Meetings
These meetings are a bit more personal. There is usually food and drink. It is more comfortable because the prospects know just about everyone there. This is a friends and family only meeting. They may even feel more obligated to sign up in such a meeting.
The road to getting friends and family there is usually rough, if they know what’s going on. Sometimes, even people that live in the house try to avoid these meetings.
The Three Foot Rule
This one was one of my favorites. Once, you get over the fear of approaching people you don’t know. You had to start doing quirky stuff like wearing buttons and hats that caught peoples attention, so they could ask you about it. They called these “Ice Breakers.”
This was my favorite, because I always knew that it was totally random. There was no way to tell if someone was a business person or not. You kind of had to feel them out as you went along. The three foot rule of MLM marketing required a psychology degree of some sort. (Not really true, but I think it would have helped.) It is the thing most people are least willing to do. This is why this method worked for those few who would go through all of the approaches. There was almost no competition in this method.
There are many old traditional methods, but they have all been replaced by new technologies and methods. You must advance and embrace the changes of marketing or you will be left far behind.
Technologically Advanced MLM Marketing
Webinars
This is much the same as the hotel meeting. The webinars are highly charged, and since the prospect is in the comfort of their own home; it makes them more receptive. Right at the end of the webinar, the prospect can click on a link and fill in their credit card information with the slightest of ease. After first giving you information on how to contact them with…
Capture Pages
This phenomena has taken MLM marketing to the next level. You don’t just get your prospect to join your business, but you are able to sell them the tools to keep their business running and more. How can you sell to someone who you can’t contact? This is where lead capture pages will come into the picture through use of an…
Autoresponder
This great tool allows you to get back to your leads many, many times and offer them more products, more services, more coaching and help. And the best part about it is: you have their permission to do so. You don’t have to spam to make it happen.
This form of MLM marketing allows you to constantly contact prospects about your business without seeming pushy or desperate. You also don’t have to write the same people or call them over and over. Once, you write sales letters, every person that signs your lead capture page will receive the same letters in succession.
So, is MLM marketing just some old fad? No. But it does have new technologies and strategies to work with. So, if you don’t accept the new way of doing things, then you will be as behind as the man who refuses to use electricity.
